I'm a huge fan of the novel
Jane Eyre and this outfit was based on what I thought Jane would wear after her marriage - something simple and plain, yet interesting. Though the novel is set much earlier, I was inspired by a fashion plate from 1847, which seemed appropriate since it was the year the book was published. The gown is made from a plum cotton twill (I would have rather used silk but this was all I could afford at the time), and I accessorized it with a vintage lace collar, antique brooch, and shawl.
I also made a simple cottage bonnet from the Miller's Millinery Pattern using a brown/black changeable silk taffeta, but it is an incredibly unflattering style on me so no pictures of me in it.
