A Fractured Fairytale

At the beginning of July, my husband and I headed north for a whirlwind weekend in New York City. The trip was originally planned to visit with my brother-in-law, who was going to give us a tour of the city, but because of unforeseen circumstances my husband and I ended up on our own. It all worked out in the end as this left more room for fabric shopping. :)

Wow! Its been over a month since my last post. I apologize for the radio silence over here, but life will not slow down it seems. Between travel, work, and power outages, my sewing room has turned into a sweat shop as I've been frantically prepping for Costume College. With a little over a week until I leave for the convention I'm finally starting to see the light at the end of the sewing tunnel, so I thought I would share a quick dress I made last month.

Recently, my husband and I were lucky enough to take a two week trip to England and Paris. Even better, I was able to visit my dear friend Megan and we enjoyed a day of dress up at a nearby English country estate, Kedleston Hall, followed by tea and gambling at Megan’s. We were joined by Megan’s mom and a couple of her local friends. It’s no secret that I have a fascination with Aesthetic art and design, among many other things. I admit I am lured by the beauty and extravagance of the movement. Happily, at the distance of 150+ years, I can look at things through rose-colored glasses; I have the luxury of romanticizing the past and imagining it is applicable to my life.

So with that fascination in mind, this spring when my husband and I took a trip to Washington, D.C. for our anniversary, I made it a point to stop by the Freer Gallery of Art to check out the installation of Whistler’s Peacock Room. And boy, it didn’t disappoint.
