I’m a sucker for accessories.

Since my current sewing progress is rather boring (new shifts are not exactly thrilling blog material), I thought I would share some of my most recent accessory finds. You know one of my favorite parts of costuming is spending hours on eBay and Etsy searching for just the right thing to complete my outfit. I can’t help it. It’s an addiction.

I’ve been focusing on rounding out my 18th century wardrobe for Williamsburg. First up, I needed some new gloves to keep my hands warm if the March air is really chilly. The elbow length brown pair will coordinate nicely with my new cream pelisse and brown cloak, while the short grey ones will be perfect for my riding habit.

Also for the riding habit is the fabulous paste buckle and cut steel stick pin. Both are so unusual I couldn’t pass them up. According to the sellers, the buckle dates to the Georgian period, while the stick pin is Victorian. The buckle will be perfect for my hat and the stick pin will look lovely peeping out from my cravat. It’s the little touches like that make me ridiculously happy.

Finally, the miniature was a steal on eBay. I’m not sure on the dating; it may be late 19th century rather than 18th century, but it’s definitely hand painted and the woman’s hair and clothing don’t look overly stylized. Plus the frame is simply gorgeous!
