Cameron photgraphed the artist Marie Spartali as the historical figure Hypatia. According to the book
Pre-Raphaelite Women Artists, the gown Spartali is wearing in the photo was her own. Its interesting to wonder if Spartali wore this gown on a daily basis or kept it for her own paintings.
